Stacey
Levy,
President / Founder
|
Stacey
Levy is a Certified Social Worker having earned her undergraduate
degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
and her Masters from Columbia University in New York City.
Stacey brings with her a wealth of experience derived from her work
with a number of diverse special needs populations served within
the following organizations, between 1984-1991: The Fairfax (Va.)
County Court Boys Probation House; Creedmoor State Psychiatric Hospital;
The Queensboro Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children;
Catholic Charities of New York; Transitional Services for New York,
Inc. - A Supportive Apartment Program for the Mentally Ill; and
she last occupied the position of Assistant Director of Hope House
II, a community residence for dually diagnosed (developmentally
disabled/mentally ill) young adults, in which she was responsible
for the day to day operations, staffing issues and clinical coordination
of the program.
Stacey and her husband Brian married in 1988 and had their first
child, Ellie, in 1991. Ellie was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis
at birth. As the Founder and driving force behind The Reach for
the Stars Foundation, Stacey Levy's unbounded commitment to helping
children and young adults afflicted with cystic fibrosis comes from
a deeply personal place.
Since only three months after Ellie's birth, Stacey has been a tireless
volunteer fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis cause. She was responsible
for the development and maintenance of a multitude of events since
1991. Stacey has helped to raise significant funds for the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation and was awarded the "Outstanding Volunteer Leadership
Award" by the CF Foundation at their National Conference in May
of 2001. In 2003 Stacey received the "Woman of Achievement Award"
from the Junior League of Long Island (NY). Stacey is currently
a member of the Executive Board at Miami Country Day School.
All the while, Stacey has continued to help others through her determined
volunteer and fundraising work for several other charitable organizations,
as well as continuing her ongoing involvement with her family's
own personal philanthropic endeavors.
In addition to her extensive fundraising experience, Stacey Levy
brings both superior leadership and her depth of vision to The Reach
for the Stars Foundation. As the mother of a child afflicted with
this insidious disease, she has developed the insight and sensitivity
critical to understanding how and where to battle cystic fibrosis
most effectively. The many contacts and resources she has developed
over the years will prove to be invaluable in launching this newly
formed foundation.
The passion to help others that has consistently characterized Stacey
Levy, long before she had ever even heard of the disease that would
change her life profoundly, will prove the greatest of assets as
The Reach for the Stars Foundation works to "bridge the gap" between
the diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis and the search for a cure.

How he became involved with the RFTSF:
I became involved with the Foundation primarily as a result of my
relationship with the Levy family. I have known Brian Levy since
I was 5 years old when he was a counselor at my Summer Camp. We
kept in touch through the years and my wife Aviva and I have now
become close friends with Brian and Stacey. Getting to know and
love their daughter Ellie (who is afflicted with CF) has inspired
me to get involved with the RFTSF so that I can help make a difference
- today - in the quality of life for Ellie and other CF patients.

Jay
Fiedler, Director
Chairman
- Founder's Council
|
Miami
Dolphins Quarterback Jay Fiedler is entering his fifth year with
the Miami Dolphins and is a founding Board Member of the Reach for
the Stars Foundation. His commitment to raising money and awareness
for the Foundation is unparalleled. It is a reflection of the unrelenting
desire he showed to become a highly successful quarterback in the
NFL.
After going undrafted in the 1994 NFL Entry Draft, Jay signed a
free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1996 Jay played
for the Amsterdam Admirals of the NFL Europe League. Out of football
in 1997, he accepted a position as an assistant coach with Hofstra
University. In 1998 Jay made his return to the NFL as a member of
the Minnesota Vikings. The following season Jay got his first regular
season "game action" as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, including
a 2 touchdown passing performance in the playoffs against the Miami
Dolphins.
His record as a starting quarterback is 36-17, including a 35-17
record with the Dolphins and a 1-0 mark with Jacksonville (1999).
Of current NFL quarterbacks with at least twenty starts to their
credit in their careers, Fiedler's winning percentage of .679 is
the third-best in the league. In addition, his 36-17 record after
53 games as a starter is the best record after 53 career games started
among active quarterbacks.
How he became involved in the RFTSF:
I have known Brian for practically my entire life and when his daughter
was born and diagnosed with this terminal disease, I felt that I
needed to help him and his family in any possible manner. This Foundation
has great things planned and I look forward to being a very active
participant.
